Women Tailored Project - My project deals with three values that were of the most characteristic of the influencing Couturier, Cristobal Balenciaga: legacy, professionalism and innovation.
I drew my inspiration from a fifty year old pattern notebook granted to me by my grandmother. Balenciaga inherited his passion to the couture from his mother. This is the first link – the continuity of a legacy.
Balenciaga was called by his peers "the Master". He managed to achieve the patterns he created thanks to his extraordinary technical skills and uncompromising standards. This is the second link to the pattern notebook, made with an exceptional accuracy. As an homage to Balenciaga's professionalism, I decided to bring the notebook to the front of the scene as object of my project.
The third link is innovation. Balenciaga created a new woman's silhouette. In my project I applied the traditional techniques used notebook to my designs in an innovative way.
The set of clothes I created is composed of a jacket, a golf shirt and a skirt. The shape, the patterns and the cutlines of the three pieces embody the techniques used in the notebook, in an innovating way. I also took inspiration from the materials and the colors.
